Town Government

The Town of Sherborn:  The population of Sherborn is only around 4,400 people, spread over 16 square miles. We live in a green, almost rural ambience, with varying types of conservation protection on almost half our land. We don’t have some normal town amenities like town water or sewers, but we do have an on-call fire/rescue department with excellent emergency medical services, a police department, and a highly rated school system.

Town Website:

On the Sherborn website you will find a brief town history on the top left green banner: About Sherborn written by the Town Historian, Betsy Johnson. There are also links to government departments, volunteer committees, events and services. Sherborn, since the 17th century, has always been governed by Town Meeting. Voting is open to all registered town citizens so you may want to go to the Town Clerk’s office in the Town Hall to register.

The Select Board: Sherborn's Select Board consists of five elected volunteers. Together with the Town Administrator, they represent the policy and administrative part of town government. The Select Board staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Sherborn also has a very active and respected Advisory Board, which keeps a sharp eye on expenses and shares the Town Meeting stage with the Select Board. There are also many other active volunteer committees in town who complete the governing structure.

Taxes, Fees and Stickers:

Payment of quarterly real estate taxes: They can be paid in person at Town Hall, by mail or online.

Some places in Sherborn require a Town Sticker: There is no town-provided garbage pickup, so you may want the single sticker that covers the transfer station (don't call it a dump) and Farm Pond.

The Farm Pond and Transfer Station sticker is free for those over 65 and the transfer station alone sticker (they cut off the Farm Pond part) is free for all. These are available online with information available at the Select Board site or in person at the Select Board office.

Sherborn Council on Aging:

The Sherborn Council on Aging provides advocacy and support systems to senior citizens by working with them to maintain and improve their independence and quality of life. They offer many programs and events throughout the year. For more information go to their website at sherborncoa.org.
